We all know now that the fundamentals of Lehman are quite horrific, and basically FUBARed. This coupled with Thursday's (July 3rd, 2008) straightforward massive downside Volume Spike into the close wiped out the majority of the three day gains and pushed LEH back down below $23. Clearly, this adds up to a TakeUnder, perhaps by Barclays well into the low teens, if not single digits. Barclays in 2007 had already obtained financing for a Takeover in Europe of ABN AMRO, but lost the bid to Fortis/Santander/RBS consortium. Which basically means, LEH is their best target, and the timing is perfect, as Fortis/Sant/RBS are now realizing that they paid far too much for ABN AMRO. Indeed, Barclay's was lucky enough to LOSE the BID on ABN, and can now purchase LEH at a very low price, as the timing is now optimal. And that's that, and we'll see it on Monday. Consider that Societe Generale had just announced a 1.2billion loss from subprime(the day before they released the news of the 5billion loss from the trader) which based on the trader news instilled a 5.5billion 'emergency' injection' from shareholders. I smell a young scapegoat for a larger subprime problem that has been brewing at Societe Generale for several years now, using a nutjob young trader as a media diversion tactic to cover their losses in subprime caused by the non-rank and file executives. This kid didn't profit from any of his rogue trades, and the staggering loss was registered within less than a month? So that raises a red flag to me, saying there's much more to this then some wackjob kid. Yeah, that's my speculative take on the story.

Anyways, be careful when trading off of 'top-line' figures when earnings come out. Example, DELL came in with higher revenue than estimates last night, and I leaped on it because I had an itchy trigger finger, saw alot of buying pressure, and my brain was tired from studying. Of course DELL ends up missing 'bottom-line' estimates by a penny. Shares drop 10% after hours, so I have no choice but to turn it into an 'investment' and not a short term 'trade'.

In trading, when you start to hope and pray, you're dead. So I'm setting aside my rosaries for the time being and putting my confidence on consumers in Russia, South America, and India to lead DELL into growth, and not so much the actual management. During the conference call, Michael Dell dares to make a stupid joke around 20:45, and the CFO around 52:00 basically lapses into 'senile dementia' and says 'we can't find a single project of ours that doesn't have a negative cash flow' (he meant to say positive, but he must've been drooling down his Alzheimer's lip waiting to retire).

So I'm closing up shop in NYC for at least a year. I still get a laugh out of Bear Stearns' subprime hedge funds which went belly up in June. Chances are this is my last summer in Nyc for a while, unless I catch an outlier so extreme it will re-write the bell curve. So I promised to let the kids stay up late on the weekends, and chaperone them around town at night when I had the time... 'silent buzzing' of neon signs on less crowded cross-streets, dimly lit awnings... in the hot summers, I like to stand in front of these isolated signs, in a pseudo-trance, usually the Soup On light at Hot & Crustys (which is being renovated). Anyways, took Curious and Hay to the still 'somewhat' new water fountain at Columbus Circle around 10:30pm, and Curious splashed Hayfield, and Hay lost her 'mature tween' front and they both engaged into an all out splashface battle, until I stopped them and explained that it will just start encouraging all the other kids to do it, and then they'll put up signs saying 'No Splashing'. And then Hay said, 'but what if they put up a neon sign?'

So I'm back....

Well, I've totally given up. I'm telling people nowadays, that I got a great job as the VP of Marketing for JPMorgan Chase. I'm actually that guy you see dressed up as the big blue dog that hands out pamphlets in front of Chase banks and atms. It's actually a good job, because although the dog suit is kinda hot, (and I could imagine what it's gonna be like in the summer), the kids like to laugh at me all the time, and they let me pat them on the head, and seem to like me, and because the costume covers my whole body, big blue paw mitts and all, you can't see a single tattoo!

I also applied to this exotic options position a while ago. And then I was checking my email, I got really excited when I saw what I thought was an employer response with 'exotic options position' in the title, and then I realized, I was checking my 'SENT' mail!

So I went to a Career Fair. Yeah. I didn't feel like loading up on pens and squeeze ball gadgets. But I did get a bag of Sun Chips from the Frito Lay booth. Anyways, it was down across from the NYMEX in the Embassy Suite Hotel. I saw some coffee trader I knew, and said, 'what up'. And then I treated myself to Taco Bell on Chambers. The overhead light collapsed on my head and shattered glass all over my clothing. The manager comes over and says, 'Sorry, sorry, are you okay? Can I get you a BandAid or something?' I just said in a daze, 'meh...' with beef caught under my partial dentures and sour cream caked within the seams of my lips.... 'Yeah, you can get me a fucking MRI!'

I just came back from the library to find out that Hay was hiding a fractured arm for almost a week! She knew that I was out of work and haven't had health insurance for almost a year now(hence I refrain from most sport activities these days, and my continual tooth decay is a time measure of such lack like a year long hourglass), so she just stopped going outside to play with her friends in Central Park, until her arm hurt less. Luckily kids heal quicker. I noticed too that Curious and her weren't rough-housing at all since Tuesday. Apparently she collided with the net pole while playing a pick up volleyball game(or so she says). So I guess it's back to the Chess hut for her for a few weeks, and not the volleyball courts near Sheep's Meadow this spring. And these are the eyes of disarray...

...well, that's that... I have about 2 months left... almost end of March 2007, exam on June 2nd, lease up in about two months, Warcraft subscription done... I'm gonna take out a 30K loan, and trade independently... I've given up on ever getting a serious job ever again in my life. I've thrown in the towel. I just want to pass my CFA exam, and that will be my small victory. It probably won't open up many doors anyways, because I am damaged goods... I went wrong in youth and early 20's, and now I pay the moderate price of death. So I figure Capital One will have to write off 30K in bad debt, big woop, and then I walk off into the sunset. Will probably spend $1000 of the credit on a 1 week all inclusive vacation to somewhere like Tel Aviv again, and walk through the Arab quarters in Jerusalem with my Kippah on, and then kiss the Wailing Wall with my Turbine on, and then if I'm not blown up, shot to death, or some other sort of beyond description violent death, I will walk from Jaffa along the Tel Avivian coast, play some Kadima ball with an old man, then lay down in the sun, and the walk into the Mediterranean, and swim out until I just tire out, and drown... I'll pick a sunny day, or the closest thing to it I guess...

The thing is, we were right about the DJIA out of the money puts after the little shakeout in early March. We get the volatility premium, and now the theta decay... and now an inflection point in the Yen... with cheap 'Into the Void' Black Sabbath playing in the background... I'm still stuck between a rock and a shit place. I need to be alone to survive. It must occur. And I was reading about robot vacuums which I wrote something about on another blog, and it was about last Christmas when I was going to buy a cheap inflatable robot on remote control treads, which stood about 3.5 feet tall when inflated and was going to tell Hay and Curious to turn their collective backs, while I put two oreo cookies and a glass of milk on the inflatable tray that the robot had, and then drive it up to them and mimic in a robot voice: 'Greetings, cookies and Milk Earthlinks?' But I never got the robot, and for the most part, currently, robots would probably be from Earth and not outerspace, so they wouldn't say 'earthling', in fact the robot was from Robot Village, a small store up on Broadway past Fairways, and I went in, and the guy asked if I was a robot builder. To get a measure of dork and sadness, I said to 'Rhaz' before I logged off, 'See you later?' And instead of a simple, 'yeah, sure.' or 'yeah, see yah.' he responded, 'you know it.'

Long ago, even whenst upon various psychotropics of the most demanding level, heavy lsd, peyote, etc. I still had the control of rationale mind to know what was unreal, and even then, it was mainly 'images' of disorted occiptal firing, and never 'actual voices'.

I am sorry, and a bit, frightened to say that for a two hour span of my time, between 730pm-930pm Monday, Feb 5th, 2007 ce, I heard voices that I could not distinguish were actual physical decibels from the waking world. They were in fact, utterly in my mind. Because, the chances of 'voices' in the real world, would be slim to none to be telling me when to use the 'standard error v standard deviation' in regards to confidence intervals. I am a bit shaken, and a bit scared, that I heard a male voice loud to the point where my actual ears 'heard this fucking guy telling me this classic statistical parameter'. I heard it. And I was completely lucid and awake. I physically heard it, not the type where you recall a man's voice in your mind, but I actually heard an older man's voice, and I know it was a simple malfunction of my neural spiking, but this has NEVER happened to me before, and it is fucking scary as fuck. And clearly, it was my own misfiring, as what he told me was very vague, and useless.

...well, over the weekend, I made Hay a 'Jets' t-shirt after the Jets lost, and she wore it to school, and pretended it was an official NFL Jets Jersey, and thought they were going to the Super Bowl. The kids kept making fun of her, looking for the 'tag' inside the collar, and of course, there was none, not even a 'Fruit of the Loom' or 'Hanes' tag. And then she asked me, 'What if it rains?' because as you can see, it's made of scotch tape and cut up order tickets. I said for her to 'pat it down' with a paper towel from the lavatory if it gets wet, and not to scrub up and down or side to side. The moral of the story is, I've been shifted around from the Heating Oil pit at the NYMEX, to the Coffee pit at the NYBOT, and now to the Copper pit at the COMEX, and my wages are not even keeping up with Inflation; However, My wages have been keeping up with 'Deflation' the past couple years in fact! All in all, the probability of trading options on the floor full time are close to nill as all the pits are going electronic, meanwhile, I'm burning candles on both ends, and might have to pull out all stops and risk 'bankruptcy' as I approach the age of 30, and put on some nastily naked outright trades in the highly leveraged forex market if I am to survive with any dignity left in my utterly wasted potential life. As I write this, another one of my upper teeth is rotting out, and my gumline there reaches up close to my right nostril, but thankfully, it's covered by my mouth and lips. Perhaps a few good position trades on a nastily dangerous level of credit will allow me to prevent the collapse of my jawbone in a few more years. Funny, that I was so dismayed today, after getting into a small study rhythm, that I think I'm gonna drink alot of Jagermeister, which I was informed is to get drunk with other people, yet I frequently drink it alone at random bars. Basically, 10 pips if you find the price action at the mean in say, a one day bollinger band data set, is a good probabilty to capture, BUT, you have to give yourself about a 24 pip downside risk.
You won't make more than 10 ticks, but on size, it might be worth it. Example being, I traded a single lot, and made a quick 100 bucks with euro, and funny thing is, I actually wired out the 100 bucks so I can pay for Hayheehoo and Curious's Christmas present, which is a one year subscription to the World of Warcraft online game. Good Study Areas in Manhattan: The 5 Research Libraries

So, there's the branch libraries, and then what I will now call the 5 Megas. The Ultra-Mega is simply the Bryant Park Library, which is hands down, a marvel. So I just discovered the closest 'Mega' library to my home, and that is the Lincoln Center library. Not to be confused with the Riverside 'Branch' library. The L Center Library is a Research library. It has three floors, each equipped with long broad reading/studying/research tables, with those really nice aerodynamic seats. On the 3rd Floor, there's a large reading room. And on the bottom floor, there's even a reasonably intricate 'museum' that you can peruse for acting buffs, and I saw a 'real' Academy Award Oscar in a display case and one of those Tony awards. As for the bathrooms, they are clean enough. And they have tons of internet enable computers in case you need to check on the 'marqueta de cambio'.
